You have an appointment for a preoperative exam ahead of refractive surgery or a lens replacement. This questionnaire is to be completed before the consultation. Allow five minutes.
It covers how your eyes behave day to day, whether you wear contact lenses, your current treatments and what you expect from the operation. These elements matter when preparing surgery. Dry eye, for instance, often goes unnoticed and is treated very well provided it is picked up before the procedure. Recovery is then noticeably more comfortable.
The answers are passed on directly to Dr Sanak and are not stored on this site. They let you arrive at the consultation with a clear picture of your situation already in hand, and keep the time of the exam for your questions.
Allow about an hour. We measure your vision, the shape and thickness of the cornea and the quality of the tears, then examine the back of the eye after dilation. Dilation blurs near vision for a few hours, so you must not drive afterwards. If you wear lenses, stopping them before the exam is essential, 48 hours for soft lenses and one week for toric or rigid lenses, otherwise some measurements are unreliable and will have to be repeated. At the end of the consultation we discuss the technique that suits you. Sometimes I first suggest a few weeks of treatment of the eye surface before setting a date. That is not a postponement, it is preparation.
